The clients who come to us for prototyping aren't usually looking for a pretty model to put on a shelf. They want to know, as fast as possible, whether a design actually works — and printing is the fastest way to find out.
What we need to start
A sketch, a rough spec, or an existing part you're iterating on. We don't need finished CAD to begin — for early-stage concepts we'll often model the first iteration directly from a sketch and a conversation about function, then hand you the file once it's confirmed.
The Audi paddle shift extensions shown above started as exactly this kind of project — a functional aftermarket part validated through a few print-and-test cycles before the final version shipped.
Why a physical prototype beats a render
A render tells you how something looks. A printed prototype tells you whether it fits, whether two parts actually mate the way you assumed, and whether a wall you thought was fine is actually too thin once it's holding real load. Problems that are invisible on screen show up immediately in your hand.
Material selection matches the test, not just the final product
If you're testing fit and form, a fast, cheap FDM print in PLA or PETG is usually enough — no reason to spend on a production material to check a dimension. If you're testing function under real load, thermal exposure, or a marine environment, we'll print the prototype in something closer to the eventual production material, because a fit-only material will pass a test it shouldn't.
Iteration speed is the actual product
A typical cycle is: print, test, mark up what's wrong, revise the file, print again — often within the same week, sometimes the same day for a simple geometry change. That speed is what lets you find a design flaw during prototyping instead of after a mould is already cut.
