How much does a custom 3D-printed car part cost?

Material, process, size and quantity — the four things that actually move the price of a custom or reproduced part, with real numbers from parts we've quoted.

The honest answer is "it depends," but four things do almost all of the work in getting from "it depends" to an actual number: material, process, size, and quantity.

Material and process

FDM in PETG or ASA is the cheapest route and covers most exterior trim — bumper pieces, covers, brackets. SLA resin costs more per gram but wins on fine detail: badges, switch bezels, anything with sharp lettering. SLS nylon sits at the top of the range and is worth it specifically when a part flexes or takes repeated mechanical load, like a clip or a handle.

Printing the wrong process for the job costs more in the long run than it saves up front — a badge in FDM will look soft, and a load-bearing clip in resin will crack.

Size and geometry

A small interior clip and a full diffuser lip are not the same job even in the same material. Larger parts take more material and more print time, obviously, but geometry matters too: a part with a lot of overhang needs support material that gets removed afterward, which adds labour on top of print time.

The three-piece diffuser lip above is a useful example of both axes at once — it's a larger, multi-part exterior piece, and it's priced accordingly against a small interior clip a fraction of the size.

Quantity

Per-unit price drops fast between one part and a small batch, because setup and post-processing are largely fixed costs regardless of quantity. If you need forty of something, tell us up front — the per-part economics change enough that it's worth quoting as a batch from the start rather than as one part, forty times.

What doesn't change the price much

Colour, within a material's standard range, is close to free. Post-processing (bead blasting for texture, painting, clear coat) is the exception — that's real added labour and is priced separately.

Want an actual number? Send us photos and a quantity and we'll quote it. For the material trade-offs in more depth, see 3D printing materials 101.
